Chappati(Roti) Kheer/ Indian Flatbread Dessert

When I was a kid, I used to have these weird food combos (well weird for some😛) like chappati and mango slices, juicy chopped tomatoes with some sprinkled sugar along with roti, idli dipped in tea 😋, I know, I know, sounds quite weird but were delicious treat for me as a kid (even now) and it was a lazy off day for my mother from the kitchen. One such combination which even my sister would like was chappati completely soaked in milk, topped with some sugar or jaggery. I guess most moms would have introduced roti/chappati to their kids in this form initially. But I continued having this all through my college and work life specially on busy days.  Recently, when I wasn't feeling so well, gave the chappati milk combo to my son, and as usual anything sweet, he loves them. He relished it. He also made his own version by adding some raisins, banana's (of course) and enjoyed. So for the love of this combination and some leftover roti's, made me ma...

Apple Kheer/ Payasam

Kheer or payasam is the most preferred dessert when it comes to special occasions in my house and I keep making different varieties of kheer. This time while browsing for kheer recipe, I found out this very unique kheer recipe and decided to try it for our anniversary.  Apple Payasam is another version of the traditional milk based dessert. Its creamy and extremely tasty. My son who doesn't eat apple at all, was seen demanding more of this tasty kheer. Its best to use full cream milk for this kheer as for any other kheer. This is what will give you a creamy and rich kheer. This was the first time I tried making a fruit based kheer and it turned out to be delicious. You can check out other Indian Desserts  here.  Lets see how this is done. Step by step images are given below for reference.  Ingredients : 1 apple 1 tsp Ghee or clarified butter 3 cup milk ¼ cup condensed milk / milkmaid (add more if you like) ¼ tsp cardamom powder 2 tbsp dry ...

Beetroot Halwa/ Beetroot Dessert

Mid week I have this craving for sweets to lift up my spirits and even though I resist,  I somehow end up making something sweet and try and put the blame on someone else. Well this time, its on my son. He does not like beetroot in any form. But if I add little jaggery or sugar to anything he loves it. So mid week when I had sweet craving, I made this wonderful homemade Beetroot Halwa. Its creamy, easy, addictive, perfectly sweet! This beetroot halwa recipe I have learnt from my mom. This dessert has been my childhood favourite, every time she makes it, it turns out to be the best! She also used to make carrot halwa in the same method and sometimes have also combined carrot and beetroot together. This halwa recipe is truly delicious with the right flavours and texture. This creamy beetroot recipe is the ultimate make-ahead dessert, perfect for any festivities. Some do add khoya, but I have just added condensed milk.  I have included the step by step process for making this ...

Mango Phirni- (Mango Pudding)

We love mangoes and have them every summer. And we love sweets too. So why not make something sweet out of mangoes. I have tried making mango sheera, Mango cheese cake (No bake), Mango custard, but this time I wanted to try something different. We love phirni,  and its Ramadan and we are missing the authentic phirni, so thought of making Mango phirni. It is a different variation to the popular Indian sweet Phirni. Phirni is a rice pudding or rice kheer made with full cream milk, and rice. I have added mangoes as the main ingredients to make this one. The creaminess of milk and the texture of mango chunks along with nuts makes this a super dessert. It tastes very similar to mango rice kheer with a pudding consistency hence we can call it as Phirni. The best part about this recipe is limited ingredients which we would have at home and its very easy to make. The only problem I find in this is the waiting 😥 for it to chill. Well lets see how its done. Step by Step images ar...
